October 29 snow? What in the world? Yesterday, we had snow. Southeast PA!!! I think the news said the last time this happened so early was in 1979. Two nights ago, the Phillies/TB game was finally suspended... it was kind of crazy. I felt bad for the Phillies... they finally get some momentum and wham! Mother nature hits big time. It was bizzarre. Still, I'm having fun watching the games and wish I had started watching sooner. Colleen and I watch together if she's home. She knows the game. Used to manage her teams at school. Plenty of girls manage teams and never learn whatever game it is. Colleen is funny when she watches and yells at the players. She cracks me up.
Oher than that nothing is really new.
October 17 computer problemsMy home computer is slowly but surely going down hill. We bought it the year Jamie graduated, which was 2005 so I should not be surprised. We've had any number of viruses attack and any time I've tried to add virus protection, be it McAfee or what I'm paying $5 a month to Verizon for, it has never fully been installed. At this point, Colleen says we need to wipe and restore it. Woohoo. Amazing how much you end up on a computer after 3-4 years.
Everyone is fine. The kids are all busy and happy. Liam is thrilled the Phillies are in the World Series. He has been to quite a few regualr season games. I knew that he would be one happy boy the other night when they won. The city looked pretty crazy. Now we wait to see they'll be against. The funny thing is that the city itself will not put a cap or jersey on the William Penn statue as had been done in years past for the various pro teams that made it to finals. Every time they did, it seemed to jinx the team.
Fall has made another appearance as the temps went from 79 yesterday to low 60s today and about 40s tonight. Drat. I liked the not having to worry about heat and hot water repreive we had for a little while.
Just wanted to say hello and yes we are still around. Hopefully we will get the computer back to good working order soon. October 04 register! The General Election is almost here Registration deadlines are either upon us in some states or are very soon!!!!! I'd say I don't care who you vote for but that would be less than honest. However, I respect someone far more who steps up and votes compared to those who do not realize who lucky we are to able to vote, do not and then complain about anyone and everyone elected. This will tell you when your state's deadline is. www.rockthevote.com/electioncenter/ This has links to any needs you have here in PA. You can print a registration form. The deadline is this MONDAY, Oct. 6 www.votespa.com/ I cannot find any info on whether or not having your registration post marked by Monday is enough, so you may want to walk it in to any of the offices below to make sure. Where to register: you can register to vote at many other state government offices, including:
October 03 borrowing an ideaOne of my blogging friends is a new mom and recently posted a 10 things I've learned since becoming a mom entry. Hers was really good, and got me thinking. What I've learned being a parent (more than half my life) I am far stronger than I ever imagined. If you had told me 25 years ago I would have done or would be doing half of things I have, I would have told you you were a little looney. No matter how many people have told you, there is nothing in the world like being pregnant and then holding your baby in your arms for the first time. There is no feeling that compares to it. You finally get to meet that little person who has caused you to throw up, have heart burn, gotten their feet/hands.elbows stuck up under your ribs. And you forget about all that stuff, and love them far more than you thought was possible. Your needs are so far from first you marvel at the selfish being you once were. You relish each and every little accomplishment from a few days old until the day you pass. I still look at my kids and wonder how in the world anything so incredibly awesome came to me and their dad. You never know when you are creating a memory your child will share a decade later, and recall with a warmth that touches your heart all over again. You want to cry when they are hurt, are facing going to an operating room without you (even when they're 17!), when their heart has been broken from their current love or, God forbid, any time you see them taken away to be locked away from your embrace. You would willingly trade places with them in a heartbeat. You find out that sometimes the hardest, most heart wrenching thing you need to do is not to swoop in and save the day. There are times your baby has to face the consequences of his or her actions, be it staying in for recess or even being put into the penal system. If you've worked really hard, you see the triumph. You see a formerly "bad" kid show their true colors, they actually thank you for getting them through the rough times and get to see them shine. Whether it's as a cook or a scholar, if it makes them happy it makes you happy. If you're lucky, those same stubborn teens remember they can talk to you and open up to you. It's a joy when they start voluntarily telling you about even silly little things. It's just as sweet and delicious to get a hug from your baby that outweighs you by 50 lbs and is 5 inches taller than you as it was when their little hand took yours during a walk or as a baby they put their arms around your neck and snuggled into your shoulder. Each of our kids is unique, different even though they resemble each other and you revel in their gifts and what they have to share with the world. Love really can get you through times you once thought would break you. You hope it has gotten through anything they have to face. By what you see in them you see it has made them good people. |
